World Cup is here

Published on December 21st, 2011 by in Articles

Ok, so the thrill of watching a carribean nation keep a well known European team scoreless with 10 men down sets the tone for the day. Trindad & Tobago (0) and Sweden (0), beautiful. There is something exciting about watching the underdog come alive and do it with a deep humility and joy.

I know there is something unsensible about competition, how it can cause judgement and suffocate love, descency and respect, but when you see people play with heart and honor you find yourself overcome and join in their endeavor…. In certain aspects it reminds me of the church in its primal and infant stage. The church as underdog in a hostile crowd with Roman colors all around them. They maintain their poise regardless of the pressure, they remain true to the life they committed to live, considering each day as a day to be known by love, live from hope, and abide in faith they follow the sketch drawn out for them…. I know this maybe a stretch, or maybe its to justify my excitement for T and T, but consider the words of Paul written to those living in Galatia, “For if those who are nothing think they are something, they deceive themselves”. Living life as the underdog is the way of love, as Luther comments, “We are all equal and we are all nothing. Why, then, does one man puff himself up against another, and why do we not help one another?” Or maybe we can listen to these words “The mystery of love, in the Christian tradition, is this: thhat love is weaker than selfishness, but therefore is also creative…Love’s power is its weakness, frail, selfless, surrendered to the other is the way it flourishes and thrives…God’s love finds its power by allowing place and recognition to the hostile opposition.”

Just some thoughts…

Being the England fan, i found my team truely boring even with the win against Paraguey, better step it up boys..
